Welcoming spring:

April 1, 2025
Sitting outside to meditate this morning, the first day in over 4 months that has invited such a pleasure, the tiniest green shoots peek through the soil. “Not yet,” they whisper; “be patient.” The above photo is from last year, the first week of April. It reminds me, “be patient; spring will come.” Today’s tiny green is barely visible, a promise more than a presence.

I was led to reflect, what flowers are just barely breaking ground within me, and in our world? What do I wish to cherish and support?
I go inside where Hal, up very early, watches CNN too much of the day for my tolerance. Trump is on, speaking angrily about elimination of mail-in ballots, and about election fraud that cost him the election. Rage arises in me!
“Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing…”
Meditation: I sat outside, wrapped in a blanket, and chose lightly to explore what flower seeds were within. Patience came first; it doesn’t sit by idly but holds intention, trust and willingness to work toward co-creation. Imagination: just imagining a world at peace; and for myself, a mind and body at peace. Spaciousness: it’s hard to see when I’m deeply contracted but it’s always there. Light: always there in the darkness, but often very hard to find; impossible if I’m fixated on the darkness!
I moved into silence, just present with breath, and with whatever arose to become predominant, sometimes pleasant, or unpleasant, or neutral. Seeing; a small squirrel struggling to carry last fall’s pinecone, ½ his size. Feeling breeze; now warm, now cooler; now warmer again. Breeze carrying the first faint scent of thaw; of new life; pleasant. Grasping: mind observing grasping from a place free of it and resting in that spaciousness. And then a cease of time, just resting in spaciousness. I came back to Barbara consciousness with a deeper trust. We CAN do this! And with a restored energy ready to work again toward co-creation of well-being for all. Let us water the seeds. Spring will come.
